The market in Skierniewice named after Jan Odrowąż, the founder of the city, has been preserved to this day in a medieval urban layout. One and two-story buildings come from the second half of the 19th century. However, most of the tenement houses on the market lost their original style features. Until 1956, it served as a marketplace. The most important building in the market is the town hall - the current seat of the city authorities built in 1847 according to the design of Henry Marconi in the Neo-Renaissance style. In 2005–2006 the market was thoroughly rebuilt. A paving stone was laid to remind the former character of the market. In the middle a new fountain illuminated in several colors was created. The Skierniewice market is the place of the most important cultural events of the city. Concerts, recitals and annual fireworks are held here.
