It was built of bricks in the years 1434-1449 by the bishop of Kujawy Władysław Oporowski. The beginning of the castle complex was a knight's residential tower, erected at the beginning of the 15th century on an artificial island. Later, residential buildings surrounding a small cobblestone courtyard, defensive walls and a semicircular tower with a chapel on the first floor were built. Above the castle is the north-west corner tower decorated with a Gothic dagger. An annex from the courtyard dates from around 1840. "sideboard" and the neo-Gothic portal of the entrance gate and terrace in front of the bridge. The castle is surrounded by a landscape park founded in the first half of the 19th century. The castle has been hosting a museum since 1949 with an exhibition of court interiors. It consists of works of art and handicrafts presenting noble culture. The collections contain works of art from different eras, from the 16th to the beginning of the XX. - paintings, sculptures, handicrafts. They come from remittances, gifts and purchases. Only few exhibits are related to the history of the castle. These include portraits of the Sołłohub family from the 18th century, mirrors with French policemen from the beginning of the 18th century. Of the 19th century, single pistols from the 18th and 19th centuries and English faience vessels from Shelton of the 19th century
